We also get a guest appearance from Amanda Somerville, who has worked with a ton of power metal bands. Unsurprisingly, there's drum machines and synthesizers that take up 90% of the song, and the guitars do nothing to help. "What Kind of Love" sounds exactly like its title a slow-paced love ballad that's arguably worse than "Carry Me Over". Simply put, "Carry Me Over" is just another pompous pop song. Those are typical signs of a song that may or may not have been written by regulars for super-famous pop idols, but only get less than a quarter of the royalties. The former is clearly a ridiculous pop ballad, what with its overuse of synthesized drumbeats during the verses and syrupy melody, the chorus consisting of the song's title repeated. When it comes to songs like "Carry Me Over" and "Lost in Space", I can't say I blame them. Many who were familiar with Avantasia for their previous albums were appalled by some of the new material it released. Some were offended by the fact that Sammett sneaked some radio friendliness onto "The Scarecrow" while others tolerated, or even loved it. It started with "The Scarecrow", an album with a tad bit more radio-friendliness than most Edguy albums that were out at the time. Instead, he decided to resurrect it and make it his own personal pet project, shoveling out some albums that aren't quite "Metal Opera"-like. It was meant to be a project that only made a two part album, but Tobias Sammett felt that he wasn't done with Avantasia.
